As a mature, experienced therapist, and a survivor of childhood abuse myself, I am dedicated to couples counselling, and individual therapy. I believe that at the heart of human existence is creativity, pleasure and fulfilment and that difficulties in sexual expression and functioning can go to the core of a person’s relationship to self and others. I therefore, amongst other training, have specialist training in sex therapy and am a fully accredited member of ASSERT (Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists). Health Therapists are qualified counsellors and healthcare professionals who have had extensive training in human sexuality, behaviour and relationships.
Additionally, and importantly, I understand personally and theoretically the impact that trauma can have on both the individual and the couple in a relationship. As a trauma informed therapist and a member of ISTSS (International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies), I am an Accredited member of EMDRAA (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a therapy that is an evidence based approach to treating anxiety, depression, phobias and is recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the treatment of psychological trauma.
I work with individuals and couples struggling with issues pertaining to gender, sexuality, self-acceptance, grief and loss, adoption, depression and anxiety, eating disorders, and interpersonal relationships. Together we explore your values, we identify your commitments and the aspects of your life that are important to you, and peel back the numerous life stressors that might keep you from not living the life you want.
